Year 7 - 12
CURRICULUM
The program at Years 7 and 8 exposes students to a diverse range of subjects in order to lay solid foundations in all key areas of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. Students at these levels undertake the following core subjects; English, Maths, Science, Humanities (History, Geography, Economics), Physical Education / Sport, Health and Italian. In addition, over the course of Years 7 and 8 students also undertake a range of Arts and Technology subjects for one semester. These include Art, Home Economics, Woodwork, Metalwork, Media and Textiles.
As students move through secondary school, they have an increasing amount of choice about their course of study. When students move into Years 9 and 10, they continue to study a group of core, compulsory subjects but can also choose from a range of electives. Students can also make an early start on their VCE by completing a Year 11 subject while still in Year 10. Many of our Year 10 students also study a VET (vocational education) subject through a Corangamite Trade Training Cluster school.
LEADERSHIP SCHOOL
Year 9 students at Derrinallum P-12 College have the opportunity to apply to attend the Victorian Education Department’s School for Student Leadership. The opportunity to attend this program is unique and highly valued, allowing our students to mix with other Year 9 students from across the state and work towards the program goals outlined below.
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
At all year levels, students are encouraged to participate in external challenges and enrichment opportunities including public speaking and debating, and the University of NSW Academic Competitions. There are also many opportunities for students to participate in sport, within and beyond the school, and community projects.
