Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning is a "hands on" option for Year 11 and 12 students who want to take on an apprenticeship, get a job or go to TAFE after leaving school. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is a recognized Senior Secondary Qualification.
VCAL consists of four compulsory strands. These are Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills. The Literacy and Numeracy skills can be chosen from VCAL or VCE Literacy and Numeracy subjects.
There are three entry levels into VCAL: Foundation, Intermediate and Senior. Students entering VCAL at the Senior level must take on a TAFE subject.
VCAL gives students practical work related experience and as a part of their Work Related Skills, students will participate in a work placement or school based apprenticeship.
