Senior Pathways

Senior Pathways

Students at Derrinallum P-12 College can choose from a range of senior pathways. These include:
  • Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).  The Victorian Certificate of Education is a pathway into university courses, TAFE certificates or diplomas, or employment. Students graduate with an ATAR score that is used for tertiary selection. We are able to offer a good range of subjects for our Year 11 and 12 students, with the added benefit of small class sizes and a great deal of individual support. Subjects run over the past two years include: English, Further Maths, Maths Methods, Design and Technology (Woodwork), Studio Art, Physics, Food Technology, Chemistry, Psychology, Business Management, Chemistry,  Legal Studies, Literature, Sociology, Physical Education, Biology, Health and Human Development.
  • VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). The VCE VM is a two-year applied learning program that forms part of the Victorian Certificate of Education. The VCE VM is designed for students who learn best through practical, hands-on experiences and want to develop skills that will prepare them for work, life, and further study.
This program is ideal for students who are looking for a more active, real-world learning environment and are not seeking an ATAR for university entry. Instead of traditional exams and study scores, students are assessed in class by their teachers through a variety of engaging, project-based tasks. The only external assessment is Part A of the General Achievement Test (GAT).
    The VCE VM offers:

A strong focus on employability and life skills
    Opportunities to gain industry experience
    Structured workplace learning
Vocational Education and Training (VET) at Certificate II level or above
Pathways to apprenticeships, traineeships, TAFE, and alternative university entry
To complete the VCE VM, students undertake a combination of core subjects including Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills, and Personal Development Skills — alongside elective subjects and VET options tailored to their interests.
Students also have the option to add other VCE studies to personalise their learning experience further.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET). Students are able to study VET subjects by several methods:
    • Corangamite Trade Training Cluster. Derrinallum P-12 College is a member of the Corangamite Trade Training Cluster (CTTC). This is a group of schools from in the Corangamite Shire that offer VETiS courses to students from other schools. The courses offered across the five campuses include: Automotive Vocational Preparation, Building and Construction, Business, Community Services Work, Engineering Studies, Hospitality, Music Industry, Salon Assistant and Retail Make-Up and Skin Care.
    • Warrnambool TAFE. Courses offered include Automotive, Painting & Decorating, Building, Hospitality, Multi-media, Information Technology and Hair & Beauty.
    • School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. Students also have the opportunity to undertake School Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships in a range of trade areas.
The College has a strong record of academic success at Year 12. We are able to provide small class sizes in our Year 11 and 12 subjects and students benefit from the additional support they are able to receive from their teachers. Derrinallum P-12 College has recently purchased the latest video-conferencing equipment which enables us to extend our curriculum offerings by linking up with other schools. We firmly believe we can provide an excellent education for the young people of Derrinallum and the surrounding areas, all the way through from Foundation to Year 12.
